In today’s pearl we are going to be talking briefly on the topic of GIVING. It’s short I promise.
Straight to it:
First we need to understand that as believers, we give because we are richly blessed already in Christ. We don’t give to get blessed really, we give because we have been richly blessed in Christ. And so because of this understanding, we are to give willingly and cheerfully according to what we have. We shouldn’t give what we can’t afford else we might consciously or unconsciously grumble while giving.
2 Cor 8:12
12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have. NIV
2 Cor 9:7-8
7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. NIV
When we decide to give, it shouldn’t be forced or borne out of guilt or fear. It shouldn’t be as a result of a guilt trip. We shouldn’t give because another person is giving or give more than we can afford because we see someone give the same quantity. Purpose in your heart what you want to give and cheerfully do it out of the abundance of the grace you have received. Man would see the quantity, God sees the intent of the heart. Give because you desire to, with Joy.
We shouldn’t give because we are scared that that God would stop ‘blessing’ us if we don’t give. Remember we have been richly blessed already? What we should also understand is that just like with a whole lot of things in life, there are principles, one of which is the principle of sowing and reaping. Whatever you sow, the same you reap. This applies to giving too. You give bountifully, you reap bountifully.
2 Cor 9:6-7
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. NIV
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” NIV
The verse above isn’t just talking about giving money, food or anything positive generally. It’s talking about that same principle of whatever you sow, you would reap; whether good or evil.
So whenever we decide to give, we should know that we would reap it. If you sow kindness, you reap kindness. Sow love, you reap love bountifully. Remember giving isn’t about how much or how large you give, but it’s about the intent of your heart and it should be from the abundance of the grace you have received.
Father help us to create a habit of giving. Not because we need something, but because we walk in the reality that we have been richly blessed already by You. Amen.
See, I told you it was going to be short. As usual, don’t forget to follow via mail, like, share with people and share your thoughts in the comments boxes below. Enjoy the rest of your day. Love you.
